The Philippine president has signed a new bill aimed at limiting the use of erectile dysfunction drugs, including Viagra and Cialis, to the maximum amount allowed by law, a move promoted by a lawmaker who has vowed to keep the measure in force.
The measure would prohibit the sale of the medications without a prescription, allowing doctors to prescribe the drugs to patients.
“The president’s proposed bill will give the pharmaceutical industry a chance to maintain the regulatory and legal safeguards that protect patients from serious side effects,” said a lawmaker who was in charge of the government’s drug regulation and health education.
The bill was signed by president Rodrigo Duterte on Monday, which was aimed at curbing the spread of HIV/AIDS.
Duterte has promised to keep the law in place, which allows drugs that are not regulated by the Food and Drug Administration to be dispensed without a prescription.
The Philippines is home to a large number of people, many of them working in the pharmaceutical industry, who have suffered suffering from sexual dysfunction.
On Monday, Duterte said that it was the “drug industry’s responsibility to ensure that people have access to safe and effective treatments,” adding that the drugs he was promoting had also been approved for use in other countries.
The president’s office said he had signed the measure “as he considers the public’s interest in ensuring that pharmaceutical companies do not have to comply with the law,” adding that Duterte has yet to make a decision.
Duterte has also indicated that he would not approve the measure unless it was passed with “great interest” from the government and that “there is an opportunity to strengthen the law,” adding that he is ready to seek the government’s support in his bid for a deal.
The drug trade in the Philippines is a significant concern for many Filipinos and their communities, which have a higher rate of death from HIV/AIDS than other countries, including China.
In the past, the drug trade in the Philippines was estimated to haveertility and reproductive difficulties.
Duterte is also keen to address a lack of access to reproductive services, a key issue that affects the Philippines, he said.
In a meeting last year with the president’s office, Duterte agreed to a drug bill that would allow anyone to purchase the drugs without a prescription.
“The government will continue to enforce the law,” he said.
However, the president has said he would not approve the measure unless it was passed with “great interest” from the government and that there is an opportunity to strengthen the law, which allows drugs to be dispensed without a prescription, in order to ensure access to necessary medications.

“The president has said he will not approve the measure unless it was passed with great interest from the government,” said a spokesman for the president’s office. “If we don’t approve the bill, the government will issue a notice to the president to stop the sale of drugs, which are not regulated by the Food and Drug Administration.”

Men in the UK will be able to buy Viagra over the counter after consulting with a pharmacist and without a prescription for the first time today.
ViagraConnect manufacturer, Pfizer, estimates more than a fifth of men aged over 18 in Britain suffer from erectile dysfunction, but almost half of those over 40 have not sought medical help.
The erectile dysfunction drug will be available in 14,000 stores across Britain and via pharmacy websites.
The tablets will be available exclusively from Boots until 10 April.
Those aged 18 and over will be able to buy the tablets following a conversation with a pharmacist or after filling out an online form. Men can ask to speak to a pharmacist in a private consultation room if preferred.
The pharmacists will determine whether treatment is appropriate for the patient and give advice on erectile dysfunction, usage of the medicine and potential side effects. They will advise men to consult with their doctor no less than six months after buying Viagra so that any potential underlying conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, or heart disease can be investigated.
A Boots spokesperson said that the man affected by erectile dysfunction should buy the drug themselves wherever practically possible.
Men with severe heart problems, those at high risk of heart problems, liver failure, kidney failure, strokes or those taking certain other medicines, will still need to be prescribed the drug under the supervision of a doctor.
A four-pack of the tablets will cost £19.99 and an eight-pack £34.99.

“Our hope is that the availability of Viagra Connect in pharmacies will encourage men who do nothing about their erectile dysfunction to seek help, and encourage those who are inclined to seek help to do so sooner.”
